The arrival by Shaun tan

today i am going to talk about the arrival  (by shaun tan.)the arrival is a book with no words , but it is still a very interesting book to read. it is not only for children but it is for adults.

the author has focused on the book about immigration. But there is a different thing about it, the story is in a different way. the story has bits of the real world and puts it to the story, but it doesn’t look the because the things that you see are more imaginary. it looks like it has some links with it because the way the entered the other country was by boat. In new York, migrants that came from another country and came over to new York (Ellis island.)came by boat. Also the links between them is that Ellis island and the story is that in the story they have two statues, and in Ellis island there is the statue of liberty.

this story is based in a man that is going to to another country leaving is family and his family happiness. he went to get a better house and life. He went over there so that then his family can come over there and live together in that country. but it will be very hard for him to find a house were they can stay. It will be hard because he can not speak the language that they speak. also the things that they do is very different to the things they do, for example, they have a weird dogs or what ever it was, they eat and and do different things.so he will have to get adapted to this country.

the author has used no words on this book. But with or without words the book will still be very good. I think that the author made the book with no words because he is making us try to imagine what is happening with our own imagination. that’s why it is very good, the actions in this book tells you enough to ask for words. we were on the bit were the man went to the other country and went through a massive storm and survived it. After that they finely saw land finished their journey. The man had to go for a check up first on the boat and then he had to get of the boat and go to a massive house were a lot of people were there to get checked. the man was very surprised to see a lot of people. on the page, the author  is showing us different pairs of pictures. On the pictures, it shows that the man was very confused because he did not under stand what the man was saying (as I explained in the in the second paragraph.) and after that he went on a very big balloon and then he flied to the city. After that flight he was looking for a house, he saw a lady and tried to tell her, but he couldn’t. So he had an idea, he painted  a drawing to tell her what he meant and that’s where we left the story.
